What this calculator estimates

Enter what's on your monthly statement and odometer, and the calculator works out four things:

  • Remaining scheduled payments: how many payments are left before your lease end date, and what they add up to.
  • Projected miles at lease end: your driving pace so far, carried forward to the end of the lease.
  • Estimated extra-mile charge: the projected overage times your per-mile rate.
  • Early termination risk: how much ending early is likely to matter, based on how many payments are left.

How the estimate works

The math is simple and the same every time, so you can check it. Payments are monthly, with the last one due a month before the lease ends. If you leave the start date blank, we assume a 36-month lease. If you leave the per-mile charge blank, we assume $0.25 a mile, a common rate. Every assumption we use is listed with your result.

What it can't tell you

Ending a lease early is decided by numbers only your leasing company has: your payoff amount, the early termination terms in your contract, and whether it allows dealers or other buyers to pay off the lease. So this calculator never estimates an early termination charge. It shows how much is at stake and what to ask for next. Our guides explain those numbers:
